• Interesting flights to or from Geneva airport for the week from Monday 21 June 2021 to Sunday 27 June 2021

Monday 21 June: Departure  of a Gulf 5, registration VP-CDF ( a Cayman Islands registration), owned by Business Aviation Asia. It went first to Hong Kong, then to Shanghai Pudong. One can assume that the criticisms of the treatment of Hong Kong do not prevent business!

Tuesday 22 June: Arrival from the Moscow executive airport of a big Airbus ACJ319 Company Jet. This aircraft, which may seat up to 39 passengers, is owned by the Russian Magnate Andrey Guryev and operated by the company MJET. Since it specifically avoided overflying Belarus, one can assume that its passengers were not all Russian.

Wednesday 23 June: Two jets (a Gulf 5 and a Gulf 7) belonging to Rolex went simultaneously to and back from Bern. A big delegation! Important Meeting?

Thursday 24 June: A long flight of a NetJets Gulf 5, coming from Seletar Singapore via Baku. That might have cost a lot, but be related to Football! The aircraft went back to Singapore the next day.

Thursday 24 June: A new company called Hibernian Airline, registered in Ireland,  sent a Challenger CL-600 from Maastricht to Geneva, then quickly back to Maastricht. Hibernian Airline is a “wet lease” company, which provides an aircraft, complete crew, maintenance, and insurance (ACMI) to another airline or other type of business acting as a broker of air travel (the lessee), which pays by hours operated.

Friday 25 June: an Embraer Legacy 600 of London Executive Aviation came from Luton London to Geneva, calling in on the way at Marseille, Le Bourget Paris, and Rome Ciampino. These executives certainly get around!

Saturday 26 June: Albinati Aviation Pilatus PC24 off to Glasgow. I think there are some football matches there! Quarantine on return?

Sunday 27 June: Another new Global 6000 from NetJets Sales Inc, going from Geneva to Addison Texas via Fort Lauderdale. The sort of route that ex-president Donald T could take.

  • Interesting flights to or from Geneva airport for the week from Monday 14 June 2021 to Sunday 20 June 2021.

The BP show (Biden-Putin, not British Petroleum!).

Monday 14 June: A Falcon 200 jet owner by the Bulgarian Government appears to have come to Geneva from Hyperspace. Maybe, for privacy, the pilot turned off the aircraft transponder information  .

Tuesday 15 June: The arrival of Air Force one, with President Biden aboard. The aircraft had stopped first in Newquay Cornwall for the G7, then London Heathrow (tea with the Queen), then Brussels  (NATO). Also this same day, two USAF Boeing 757 aircraft: one having followed  the same itinerary as Air Force one (probably the American journalists), the other not having stopped in Brussels. However, Delta Air Lines flew an unscheduled Airbus A330 from Brussels to Geneva.

Also on the Tuesday there came from the Moscow Vnukovo  executive airport an Ilyushin IL96 aircraft. Perhaps this contained the car to be used by President Putin , and maybe some secret service persons.

Wednesday 16 June: Putin arriving in the first of two Ilyushin IL96 aircraft. Perhaps the second was the Russian journalists. Both of these came from Sochi (where the Olympics were staged a few years ago).

As we expected, both presidents land their entourages left on the Wednesday evening: the Russians to Moscow Vnukovo and the Americans to Andrews Air Force base in Virginia. Interestingly, one of the American Boeing 757 had to make a refuelling stop in Bangor, Maine.

Thursday 17 June: Clean-up time! The three Globemasters, which had been waiting in the US military base in Ramstein Germany, came to Geneva to pick up a few objects (President Biden’s heavy limousine), then back to the USA, two to the military base in Virginia and one to theMarine Corps Air Facility Quantico, stopping to refuel in Bangor..

The special Delta airlines went back to Atlanta.

Friday 18 June: Two new destinations: a Gulf 5 of PPG INDUSTRIES INC Pittsburgh going to Allegheny County Pittsburgh via Pittsburgh International.

Saturday 19 June: A hot day for international flights (maybe related to the Biden/Putin exchange. An Albinati Aeronautics Falcon 7x flight to Kuala Lumpur and a Gulf 5 of Business Aviation Asia coming from Nanjing China.

Sunday 20 June: The second interesting flight was a Gulf 5 of Falconair , noise class 4, coming from Cape Town and arriving in Geneva, overflying Versoix on the approach. at 6h04 am. This was exactly 5 hours and  52 minutes after the last returning flight of the previous evening, landing at 12 minutes after midnight, also over Versoix  : an easyJet Airbus A320 (noise class 4) an hour late coming from Marrakech.

Just remind me how many hours it is recommended that we need to sleep each night! I seem to remember that it is an integral number between 7 and 9!

  • Interesting flights to or from Geneva airport for the week from Monday 7 June 2021 to Sunday 13 June 2021

    Nearing the Biden-Putin storm!

Monday 7 June: an Avcon Jet aircraft went from Geneva to Moscow Vnukovo, and later a Falcon 900 of TAG Aviation (UK) Ltd came from Moscow Vnukovo via Nice. Both aircraft went to the north of Belarus. However, an Embraer Legacy 600, registration T7-SYL (San Marino) flew to and from Moscow Vnukovo over Belarus. This latter aircraft is supposedly owned by an entity called VJET Inc, but a quick investigation via Linkedin immediately shows that it is controlled by Russian-based persons.

It will be interesting to check other flights to or from Moscow and see which overfly Belarus!

Monday 7 June: a Cessna CJ3 jet , registration S5-CES (Slovenia) flew from Geneva to Athens then on to Moscow Vnukovo. Slovenian authorities have forbidden overflights of Belarus for three months. However, this flight from Athens also avoided flying over Ukraine.

Monday 7 June: a Falcon 900 owned by Gazprom (Russia) flies all around Geneva for 2 hours. Curious!

Monday 7 June: A Canadian Learjet 35 ambulance aircraft came from Toronto to Geneva via Reykjavik. Since this aircraft requests no tracking one can wonder if anyone from Toronto wants not to be seen coming to Geneva.

Monday 7 June: A Bulgarian Government Falcon 2000 coming to Geneva from Sofia.

Tuesday 8 June: T7-OCC, a San Marino registered Citation 750 of Unifox Holdings Ltd going to

Wednesday 9 June: CS-TFO, a Portuguese LearJet 4 going to Brac Island, in Croatia. Is this a new holiday spot?

Thursday 10 June: Another San Marino registered aircraft of VJet on the Geneva to/from Moscow Vnukovo flying directly over Belarus. Also over Belarus was a Maltese Gulf 5 owned by Emperor aviation based in Malta), plus a Falcon 2000 owned by Gazprom. This latter aircraft flew without any call (a vain attempt to be anonymous!). However, an Austrian Gulf 5 belonging to LaudaMotion (after Niki Lauda) did avoid overflying Belarus.

Friday 11 June: the visit of the first of four American Globemaster 4-engine cargo transporters this week, aircraft belonging to the US Air Force. With the  current weather conditions they have all been landing over Vernier and taking off over Versoix. A check of the ARAG noise measurement station in the region of Satigny/Vernier shows that these landings are always the loudest of the day. After unloading their cargo they then go to the US Air Force base in Ramstein, Germany.

Saturday 12 June: the arrival from Russia of two llyushin IL-76 4-engine aircraft. These venerable aircraft are, like the US Globemaster, rather noisy!

Sunday 13 June: The remaining three USAF Globemasters coming from the USA and then going too Ramstein .

Perhaps the calm before the Biden-Putin storm!

Monday 31 May: Two aircraft in from the USA West Coast region, plus one out to there.

Tuesday 1 June: A Falcon 900 going to Alexandria Borg El Arab  (did you know that is in  Egypt?

Tuesday 1 June: A big Airbus A330 from then back to Doha! Does not seem to have been a scheduled flight!

Wednesday 2 June: Two arrivals from Ostafievo (Russia) of Falcons belonging to Gazpromavia.

Thursday 3 June: A Citation CJ3 , registration 2-TEAM, belonging to a company based in Jersey came from there and returned.

Friday 4 June:  two arrivals from Washington of enormous C-17A Globemaster cargo aircraft belonging to the US Air Force.. All for Biden’s visit, of course.

Saturday 5 June: Another Globemaster from Washington arriving then leaving for the British RAF station in Mildenhall.

    Sunday 6 June: Nothing special.
